Who does this training benefit?

This training is suitable for supervisors, JH&S committee members or anyone in the organization who has been designated to perform office ergonomic assessments or who wishes to develop a broader understanding of MSD prevention in the office environment. By the end of the course, participants will have the confidence to complete a basic office ergonomic assessment, adjust a workstation according to ergonomic guidelines and will be able to present their recommendations in a checklist report format.

Topics include:

  • What are Musculoskeletal Disorders?

  • Common signs and symptoms of MSDs

  • Main hazards that can contribute to MSDs

  • Identifying hazards in the office using checklists

  • Does the discomfort relate to the hazard identified?

  • Ergonomic guidelines and standards for office environments

  • Setting up the computer workstation including:

    o    Adjusting the workstation chair

    o    Keyboard and mouse position

    o    Positioning the monitor

    o    Positioning other equipment in the office

  • Prioritizing recommendations for improvement including tools, equipment and work methods

  • Using micro-breaks, task rotation and stretching to improve comfort in the workstation

  • How to summarize findings and recommendations in a report
