On-site Office Ergonomic Assessment
The purpose of an office ergonomic assessment is to identify and control risk factors for MSDs in the workstation and to enhance a worker’s comfort, health and safety. During the assessment, the individual will gain an understanding of what causes work-related MSDs and understand how to prevent them by learning how to adjust their computer workstations according to ergonomic guidelines.
A Kinetic Kare Certified Ergonomist conducts the on-site office ergonomic assessment with the employee in their work environment.
Who can benefit?
Any individual who uses a computer can benefit from learning to work smarter and safer. An office ergonomic assessment can prevent a musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) before it occurs. It can also benefit an individual who is experiencing discomfort in their workstation or returning to work after an injury.
How long does an office ergonomic assessment take?
The assessment takes approximately one hour to complete.
What does an office ergonomic assessment look like?
Step 1: Interview
Each session begins with an interview. The ergonomist conducts a brief interview with the individual to understand the essential job tasks and concerns.
Step 2: Observation
The ergonomist observes the individual as they perform their job and interact with the workstation equipment and environment. Workstation parameters are assessed and photos/video are taken.
Step 3: Education & Adjustment
The individual will learn about the main risk factors that can contribute to MSDs and how their work methods can be contributing to their discomfort. They will be educated on the optimal body postures and guidelines for workstation set up and the ergonomist will coach the individual to adjust their workstation.
Step 4: Report
A summary report outlines the concerns identified, the solutions for improvement and coaching provided. Recommendations for equipment and tools to be considered are also included if required.
